Steven J. Abelson
Steven J. Abelson is licensed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey and is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of New Jersey. He is also admitted before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and the United States Supreme Court.
He has been practicing law since 1982. Mr. Abelson is a graduate cum laude of Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA and received his J.D. from Indiana University, where he served on the Indiana University Law Review. After completing law school, Mr. Abelson returned to New Jersey and worked for law firms in West Long Branch and Manalapan, NJ prior to opening his own practice in 1990. He has specialized in consumer bankruptcy and debt relief since 1991 in addition to being actively involved in the Consumer Bankruptcy Bar on a state and national level. Dean of the New Jersey “College of Bankruptcy,” a statewide association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers from 1991 through 1993. Actively involved with the National Association of Bankruptcy Attorneys and testified on their behalf in Washington before the National Bankruptcy Review Commission in 1994 Former chair of the State of New Jersey for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.
Over the past years given numerous seminars and presentations on Bankruptcy Law, specifically its impact on matrimonial and family law in the State of New Jersey. In addition to his Bankruptcy work, Mr. Abelson serves on the Board of Directors for Garden State Consumer Credit Counseling Inc. (Novadebt©), a Non-Profit Corporation with offices nationwide. Novadebt provides many educational and social services relating to debt relief including the provision of debt management plans to assist debtors in the repayment of debt without the necessity of filing bankruptcy.
Michael M. Khalil
Michael Khalil is a lifelong resident of Middlesex County, New Jersey. He is licensed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey and is admitted to practice law before all courts in the State of New Jersey. He is also admitted to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Mr. Khalil graduated from Kean University in Union, NJ with honors before receiving his J.D. from Drexel University – School of Law in Philadelphia, where he was selected to be a member of the law school’s appellate litigation clinic. In that capacity, he successfully argued cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Khalil’s practice is dedicated to consumer bankruptcy, mortgage modifications and real estate law (he previously worked as a licensed New Jersey Realtor). He works primarily in the Freehold and Woodbridge offices.
Mr. Khalil joined the firm as a legal assistant in June 2014, working part time while completing law school, assisting in all aspects of the bankruptcy practice. Since becoming a full time associate, he has developed a specialty in chapter 13 reorganization plans and facilitating mortgage modifications.
